Wildlife in Akagera National Park
Day 1: Kigali –Akagera National Park
06h00: You will be picked up from your Hotel and proceed to Akagera national park. Upon arrival at the park headquarters, you will have a briefing at the park headquarters. You will embark on a game drive viewing enroute to Lake Ihema. Lining the lakes are some of the continent’s densest concentrations of water birds, while the connecting marshes are the haunt of the endangered and exquisite papyrus gonolek, and the bizarre shoebill stork – the latter perhaps the most eagerly sought of all African birds.
The game drive in Akagera National Park provides you with the opportunity to see the newly re-introduced king of the jungle (Lions) as well as viewing gentle hills blending beautifully with lowland swamps and water bodies. You will visit the hippo pool, Giraffe area in the south and the lakes road up towards Birengero.
Lunch at Ruzizi Tented Camp. Afternoon boat cruise you will go for a boat excursion on Lake Ihema, which will take you to the island that is inhabitant to several species of birds. Day 2: Akagera National Park-Kigali
Have breakfast at the lodge and check out. You will proceed on a day’s en-route game drive in the park with picnic lunches. This will give you an opportunity to tour the northern part of the park.
The game drive in Akagera National Park provides you with the opportunity to see the newly re-introduced king of the jungle (Lions) as well as viewing gentle hills blending beautifully with lowland swamps and water bodies. You will visit the hippo pool, Giraffe area in the south and the lakes road up towards Birengero.
You will then exit the park through the northern gate and have a leisurely drive back to KIGALI.

Day 3: Kigali –Volcanoes National park
Start your at 0400AM with an early morning pick up from your hotel/residence and immediately proceed to Musanze and VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK for Rwanda Gorilla Trek. You will arrive in time for briefing at the park’s headquarters before you start your guided walk at 08h00 in search of the Gorillas.
Mountain Gorilla in Volcanoes National Park

The Karisoke exhibit consists of seven sections:

All of the exhibit’s sections include panels and posters are filled with information and photos, and many also include iPads with videos, photos and additional information. For those who want to learn more about gorillas, the gorilla section includes not only detailed information about gorillas, such as diet, behavior, and social structure, but also skeletal models and audio recordings of gorilla vocalizations.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Trek VOLCANOES – KIGALI (02h30 drive)
An early breakfast sets you up for a full day of discovery. You’ll journey to the park headquarters for the Golden Monkey trek briefing at 7am, before being taken to the head of the trail, ready for your guided walk at 8am.The amazing trekking process usually takes around 4 hours, and once you come to the habituated monkey families, you’ll spend a fascinating hour with them as they go about their daily life.
Trekking to see the Golden Monkeys is an absolute highlight of Volcanoes National Park. The Golden Monkey (Cercopithecus Mitis Kandti) is a local subspecies of the widespread Sykes Monkey, also known as the ‘Blue Monkey’ and is endemic to the high altitude forests. The monkeys are playful and inquisitive and often spend their time leaping from bamboo branches or frolicking on the forest floor.
There are two habituated groups of Golden Monkey, one group comprises around 80 – 100 members, with its home at the foot of Mount Sabyinyo.
You will then proceed and return to Kigali and then be transferred to the Kigali International Airport. Bid farewell to your driver guide and proceed to check in for your outbound flight. Meal plan Breakfast & Lunch End of service.
