Knowing that it is possible to undertake an Akagera day trip, the next question is “How much does it cost?” Before knowing the cost of this trip, it is important to know what it involves. The trip begins at sunrise with a two-and-a-half journey to the Eastern part of the country hence it is important to pack breakfast before leaving Kigali. Expect our professional safari guide to pick you up from a predetermined location (Hotel, home, or any other place). Embark on your journey to the wilderness to see lots of fauna and birds that the bush has to offer through two activities- a game drive and a boat ride.
Spend the better part of the morning tracking the different nocturnal wildlife species before they return from their daily hunt. There are chances of sighting lions, Masai giraffes, leopards, Topis, Cape buffaloes, bushbucks, Defassa waterbucks, blue monkeys, Olive baboons, and vervet monkeys, to mention but a few. You will make a stop at one of the spectacular picnic sites to enjoy breakfast in the middle of the majestic wilderness while listening to the beautiful chirps of any of the 520 bird species.
There will be a lunch break, where our safari guide will drop you off at the nearest Safari Lodge for a well-deserved hot lunch. Continue for another round of wildlife spotting via the boat ride on Lake Ihema. Cruise on this Lake for the next 2 hours while spotting Hippos, crocodiles, elephants, Cape buffaloes, and different antelopes, as well as birds that include African Harrier Hawks, Cardinal woodpecker, white-tailed blue monard, flycatchers, weavers, Papyrus gonolek, African fish eagles, Black-headed gonolek, Booted eagles, white-browed coucal. In the evening, you will return to Kigali and get dropped off at the predetermined location.
To determine the final cost of your Akagera Day Trip, it is important to add up the cost of vehicle hire to Akagera (plus fuel and driver allowances), park entry fees, activity fees, lunch, and bottled water/snacks. Hiring a vehicle for this one-day Akagera Trip will cost anywhere between $300 and $500 per day (depending on the type of vehicle being used and this includes the vehicle itself, fuel, and the driver/safari guide).
The new Akagera Park entry fees cost $100 per person (for International visitors) for a 1 day/night visit. We also add the vehicle entry fee ($10 to $20 per vehicle). The boat ride costs $35 per person for a one-hour cruise and if a guide is to be hired, there is a need to add $25 per guide for the half-day game drive. Otherwise, the guide fee is optional because the entry fee includes a self-drive game viewing tour. Lunch will cost between $20 and $50 per person, depending on the choice of dish.
What’s not included in the cost of our Akagera Day Trip is your breakfast, accommodation (in Kigali or even Akagera National Park), Visa fees, insurance, domestic flights, and other activities not indicated on the program.
Plan to visit other parks in Rwanda. Next is to plan and proceed to Volcanoes National Park where you will have the exhilarating opportunity of day tracking some of the world’s few remaining mountain gorillas or choose to hike Bisoke Mountain in Rwanda.
